Canon PowerShot S2 IS

Was camera shopping recently. Although despite all the deliberation decided to stick with my old camera (Sony DSC-P52). Mainly due to budget contraints. More like… the ones I want are too expensive and I the rest I don’t really care for. The criteria were lots of optical zoom and preferably with a swivel screen to take self-potraits. So ended up shortlisting to the the following four. The Canon PowerShot S2 IS was the one I bought and then returned because after all taxes etc. it came to about CAN$950 from BestBuy and well woke up the next morning wondering what the hell was I thinking…

Canon PowerShot S2 IS
-12x Optical Zoom
-Rotating LCD Display (270 degrees swivel)
-Canon branding. Known to be the best
-5.0 MegaPixels
-Bought it and tried it out. Didnt see a phenomenal difference for a user such as myself from my old camera so basically for someone who just wants nice pictures in the least time possible, it really doesnt matter.
-CAN$699 from BestBuy

Sony DSC-H1
-12x Optical Zoom
-5.1 MegaPixel
- Looked Bulky. Like as in wouldnt consider stuffing in handbag
-2.5 inch LCD. Takes up majority of the back of the camera.
-CAN$549.99 at BestBuy

Nikon Coolpix S4
-10x Optical Zoom
-6.0 MegaPixel
-Swivelling body
-CAN$499 at BestBuy
-Why didnt I get this one instead? Tried it out at BestBuy but wasn’t very comfortable with it. Seemed unwieldy. But other people might think differently. Kept thinking I would end up breaking it.

So in short if you are planning to buy a camera probably a good idea to check out the following sites and also to try and find pictures taken with the camera online. Even if they’re amateur will give you an idea I think:

Linux On Ipod

The aim was to figure out a way to play tetris on my Ipod. Therefore came across the Ipod Linux Project. Have been meaning to try it out prior to putting the link up but just haven’t had the time so putting it up anyway. Tetris is definately supported. :)

Our bootloader allows for you to choose between either iPodLinux or Apple’s firmware each time you turn on your iPod. iPodLinux is currently safe to install on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods. Development is currently on-going on later generations of iPod, including the fourth generation click wheel, mini, U2, Photo/Color, Nano, and Video.

Serial Diners

Came across the Serial Diners group at BlogTO. A group which meets every friday and has been doing so for 16 years to go through every restaurant listed in the Yellow pages alpabetically. They’re at “H” currently. Found the Serial Diners Code of Ethics to be quite amusing. Anyone interested in going to the Harbour Sixty Steak House on Dec 2 (Mark, Andrew?). Thats the next location on their agenda. Other than tonights which I can’t make. Would be interesting to check this out. You might also want to read their rules.

The Louvre 360, Panoramic views by Jonas Carlson [Nabeel Z.]

Till I manage to see it in person this shall have to suffice. Although considering the recent riots don’t know if it’ll be possible for a bit.
