I Love Gmail

I’d write an ode except I’m poetically challanged. I mean seriously. You’ve got your conversations grouped, you can chat from within your inbox, and I could go on and on…

Eitherways. Usual odds and ends:

National Lampoon’s Pucked: Apparently in select theatres and stars Jon Bon Jovi. How come it isn’t playing in Toronto?

Hethe Srodawa: Graphic designer within the video game industry. I’d love to have some of his artwork framed.

Gmail Emoticons: The rest of them

Chimping [Faraz]: “Having several digital photographers together will result in group chimping either during or after the event they are shooting. This is similar to actual chimpanzee grooming, which is a social activity.”

The Early Days [KO]: Movie I am currently contemplating watching. People keep raving about it. Although personally looks fairly run of the mill.

India’s Feisty Untouchable Woman [Masuma B.]: If a woman can do so much under her circumstances, we can do pretty much anything.

Cheney’s hit man has me in sight [Linwood Barclay]: Very funny take on Cheney and James Frey (From Oprah’s Book Club fame/scandal)

Measure Map: Hasn’t been launched yet. But could prove to be a pretty nifty way to view hits to one’s site.

Console²: Enhance the JavaScript debugger found in Mozilla.

Pajiba: Eight Below: Very funny review of the movie and I was so thinking the majority of that stuff which is why it so aint my kinda movie.

Some quotes I got off David Neto’s Quotes page:

“… Like the linux community - where your worth is measured not by how much you accumulate, but by how much you give away.”
– dwight@pentasoft.com (Dwight VandenBerghe), comp.compilers, December 18, 1997.

“[He] had made approving noises regarding my moves, and even shook my hand a few times. At one point, he took me aside and suggested that I not move around the dance floor so much. I explained that I go where there’s space. Perhaps I should have asked him to elaborate on his philosophy about fixed points and dance floor chaos, but loud music is not conducive to such discussions.”
– Alvin Shih, writing about his dance club experiences. December 1997.

“A component of my outings turns out to be a good aerobic workout. Granted I get a solid dose of second-hand smoke, but this is Manhattan; people jog around central park and finish the job that the catalytic converters on the taxis didn’t.”
– Alvin Shih, writing about going to dance clubs in New York City, November 1997

“Feminism is a logical extension of democracy”
– Naomi Wolf, 1995/9/27, Toronto.

The Second City [Christian B.]: A colleague of mine went to see a show and said it was sooo worth it.

And for the grand finale, word verification, LiveJournal style. I have no clue why this cracks me up but it does:

“Please confirm you are a human below”

A Brief Collision of Joy

I seem to get the majority of my poetry from the subway. Sigh:

shy wildflower found
peeking out from winter’s bed
serendipity
seeing you after so long
a brief collision of joy

– Vicki Goodfellow Duke

Therefore did some digging and found another one of hers:

White Dandelion

They say when you leave the prairie
you toss your soul to the wind

to float, late-blown
as a wisp
from a fairy-seeded flower,
to be carried

from field to field,
swept from the ruffle of wheat
across a hundred acres

over the silver slope
of a city

beyond the calamity
of geese

to a place of quiet
under the rippled wing
of grouse, where the constancy
of the earth keeps its promises.

We like to think we can bargain
with these broken bodies

and we go on,
blinded by the skies,

peeling the feathers
from our own soft flesh.

Late reaction

Once again my information comes from the oddest places. Either the elevator or the scrolling newsbar above my Gmail inbox. And yes I dont watch television. The long and short being the citizens of Lahore decided to add to the whole world mayhem and protest the cartoons. Ofcourse disregarding the fact that it wasn’t their fellow citizens who published them. Minor detail. Cars put on fire, stores looted, people injured and unfortunately killed. Looting the Telenor buisness which isn’t even Dutch. Its actually based out of Norway. Apparently many of these people were students. Again it makes one wonder if its the opposition pushing for chaos or people really have lost their minds.

Some larger than life accounts over at Metroblogging Lahore.

Gmail Hearts You

Despite the fact that my valentines day is probably the most boring day of the year, I’m passing on this link to all you saps. I actually think the heart is super cute. My first Gmail chat icon. Sigh.:

So this Valentine’s day, be sure to send your loved ones some low-fi <3 hearts. Of course they’re free, and if you’re using Gmail Chat, they’re even pink…
- Gmail Hearts You

For those who dont get it, type “<3″ in your chat window in Gmail n see what happens.

Love in a Bold Climate [Masuma B.]: I found it funny if a tad desperate.

We are all innocent

Oh, Johnny wishes he was famous
Spends his time alone in the basement
With Lennon and Cobain and A guitar and a stereo

while he wishes he could escape this
but it all seems so contagious
Not to be yourself and faceless
In a song that has no soul

Innocent by Our Lady Peace

Current Playlist:

Lets get it started - Black Eyed Peas
Innocent - Our Lady Peace: Currently am unable to remove the tune from my head

Ninja & Zombie: Haven’t had a chance to go through the vids yet
Mithunism - The religion: Mithun was probably the one actor I always disliked the most.
