Movie Review:
The Namesake:

Based on the book by Jhumpa Lahiri. Personally found it more entertaining that the book which I read years ago. Well made but then that is expected from Mira Nair. She’s captured the beauty of South Asia as always. Recommended. But its an art flick so… Worth it just for the cinematography. The plot tends to be overdone at points. You can also view a related interview by Kal Penn [via Chapati Mystery]. Coincidently there was a CanStage play screened in Toronto recently based on the book this movie sorta revolves around; The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogol. It got some pretty good reviews. Wish I had gotten around to watching it. The photographs remind me of Jim Carrey in A Series of Unfortunate Events for some odd reason.

Autumn and the Plot Against Me [Kottke.org]: How a journalist set out to find the origin of a Windows wallpaper. It turned out to be Burlington, Ontario. Funny. I’ve always wondered the same thing. One of life’s mysteries solved and that too so close to home.

Videos/Trailers I’ve been meaning to watch:

Tips [via Cyncial-C]: An Ill Will Press production which pretty much guarentee’s it will be hilarious. Unfortunately havent had the time to view it yet. Word of caution: Apparently the language is not quite uh… kosher.

The first Stardust trailer is up.

Why People Believe Americans are so Stupid [Hulleye Comes By]: Obviously these folks don’t represent the entire continent.

Whutta Green Garden [Hulleye Comes By]: Funny. This one I saw earlier at some point. In Urdu though.

Balls of Fury Trailer [Mark L.]: This has got to rock. IMDB Link.

Although modern New Yorkers specialize mainly in sodomy, drug-taking, and stealing each other’s property (the lower classes via mugging, the upper classes by taxing one another), the early history of the city is actually rather heroic and inspiring. Manhattan was liberated from heathens by seventeenth-century Dutch capitalists, who are said to have bought the island for $24. (The mainstream media often espouses the inequity of this deal, but modern laissez-faire economists believe that the Dutch may actually have been overcharged, particularly when you consider the tremendous hidden costs of clearing out all of the Indians after the sale. SAA Cultural Show 2007:

Ended up going with my cousins on March 10th. Oddly never been before despite it being a pretty big fixture over in the university crowd. Eitherways gist being was a rollicking good time. Really innovative, beautifully choreographed dance sequences. I think I might end up going again next year. Waterloo was probably the one that I distinctly remember being awesome. I think. It was the one in which they had a game show theme and hollywood squares etc. Just flowed.

Some ads I suddenly thought of the other day. The doodh (<- milk) ad from my childhood which unfortunately has been permenantly embedded in my head and Indian Peugeout ad which I’ve always laughed at no matter how many times I see it.

Spread your blog postings while ye may
But your future do not shirk
That which amuses today
May one day put you out of work.

That YouTube video full of skin
Such revelry, drunken shows!
A grim visage may chance to find
And think: “My employees should wear clothes.”

Nothing is lost upon the Interwebs
Not one sexcapade nor shouting row
Even if it’s deleted, it’s always cached
And spread viral to and fro

Oh ye Washington intern! Blog your antics
Put politicians to shame
But if your treachery discover’d
Land an agent to secure your fame.

Oh ye stewardess! So free in flight
Bored with passing out meals
But pose in your airline outfit?
If you get fired, you’ll need a book deal.

Oh ye ex-Mormon! If you lose your job
Due to aspersions cast upon your employer
Well, actually, you’re now self-employed
Your site makes more than many lawyers.

But the rest of you, guide your actions well
They may come back to haunt in time
And if you must post your birthday suit
At least make sure it’s not past its prime.

South Indian food. Vegetarian. I had sworn off South Indian food ages ago and have finally been brought around. Apparently they have a cheap lunch buffet on weekends too. South Indian food is strong but quite flavourful and this place is supposedly the best in Sauga.

Alex Fletcher: The best time I’ve had in the last fifteen years was sitting at that piano with you.
Sophie Fisher: That’s wonderfully sensitive… especially from a man who wears such tight pants.
Alex Fletcher: It forces all the blood to my heart.

[Saira, yet again, bursts into giggles]

Music and Lyrics By: Watchable. Hugh Grant rocks as always. Otherwise movie sucks. But then I knew it would suck before hand. Amusing timepass.

300: Get review over at Mark’s blog. Am in agreement. You might also want to check out The Road to 300. Well written piece.

Casanova: Its post has been in draft mode since Jan 06. Am retiring it. I enjoyed it. I think. From what I remember.
