Misconceptions

Warning: The following post could potentially put you to sleep. Only proceed if you were classified as a nerd back in high school:

So I finished Schrödinger’s Ball and apparently misquoting seems to be the norm. For example:

a) “Schrödinger did not wish to promote the idea of dead-and-alive cats as a serious possibility. Rather he believed that those who would see the experiment as “absurd” had made a flawed assumption. Some, not realizing his cat is a demonstration of the strangeness of quantum mechanics, believe the cat is, indeed, half-dead and half-alive.”" — Wikipedia Article

Contrary to popular belief he was merely using the experiment to disprove another concept and not using it to prove a stand alone theory.

b) A common quote attributed to Einstein “God does not play dice with the universe” is a variant of what he actually said and the modification tends to overshadow the fact he was referring to Quantum Mechanics. The actual quote is “Quantum mechanics is certainly imposing. But an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing. The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the Old One. I, at any rate, am convinced that He does not throw dice.” (Letter to Max Born (12 December 1926); quoted in Einstein: The Life and Times ISBN 0-380-44123-3.)

This was a concert I went to prior to my Denmark trip and never got around to blogging about. Don’t think I have any pictures from it either. So just some notes which have been lying about:

– Concert featured K-Os & Joel Plaskett (All who know me know by now I’m a big K-Os fan and after the concert I realized instead of being a Joel Plaskett fan I am a fan of only one of Joel Plaskett’s songs)
– It was at the Kool Haus at Government
– I showed the bouncer my VISA instead of my drivers license. Nuts.
– Got the two free tickets via BlogTO (mucho gracias) and moi and Mark L. went.
Edge 102.1 Rocks! primarily because they were extremely kind enough to let us print out the tickets I forgot. We couldn’t get to the printing shop near Eatons since they were filming The Incredible Hulk (2008) (which btw seems to be a much better version of the 1996 hulk or maybe I’m just an Edward Norton addict.).
Drunk folks and bouncers which apparently made the news post concert.
You Say Party! We Say Die!, an opening band which was pretty good.
