This was a concert I went to prior to my Denmark trip and never got around to blogging about. Don’t think I have any pictures from it either. So just some notes which have been lying about:
– Concert featured K-Os & Joel Plaskett (All who know me know by now I’m a big K-Os fan and after the concert I realized instead of being a Joel Plaskett fan I am a fan of only one of Joel Plaskett’s songs)
– It was at the Kool Haus at Government
– I showed the bouncer my VISA instead of my drivers license. Nuts.
– Got the two free tickets via BlogTO (mucho gracias) and moi and Mark L. went.
– Edge 102.1 Rocks! primarily because they were extremely kind enough to let us print out the tickets I forgot. We couldn’t get to the printing shop near Eatons since they were filming The Incredible Hulk (2008) (which btw seems to be a much better version of the 1996 hulk or maybe I’m just an Edward Norton addict.).
– Drunk folks and bouncers which apparently made the news post concert.
– You Say Party! We Say Die!, an opening band which was pretty good.

Ok so I seem to have misplaced the photo’s temperorarily. Shall post them eventually sometime this week. A quick summary eitherways:
– Comendable effort on the part of IDRF and affiliates. The lighting was really well done and well organized even though it started a tad late. There wern’t as many people as I expected but that was possibily because most folks had already shelled out cash for the PSA formal the night before. Also advertising maybe? I recall no one really knew about the Strings, Euphoria, Josh concert either beforehand even though it ended up being one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. They didnt get more than a couple of hundred though and must have lost truckloads of money on the Hersheys Centre. IDRF chose, sensibly, to have it at a smaller venue. The Brigantine Room over at Harbourfont Centre. Its odd though. Just not enough people appreciating good rock these days.
– Show started off with an artist known as Priya. Sings in English. She seemed nervous and I admit I wasnt overly impressed by the singing. She had a kickass Dhol player though and I mean entirely in the talent dept. : D
– Then Zameer came on. English or well South Asians singing in English. Hadnt heard there music before and was quite pleasantly surprised. I went primarily for Noori but … have to admit I ended up wishing this band had played longer. They had a fusion of sorts going with many instruments which included a saxophone. Also I guess it was more my kinda music. Slightly more lively than hard rock.
– Then along came Josh. Unfortunately they only sang snippets of the two songs I like, Kabhi and Mausam. I cant quite recall which song they did in its entirety even though I’ve heard it before. Not bad.
– Noori next. The last time I heard them play was like leseee… 6 years ago at LUMS. The days of Mujhe Rokho. This performance was fun but somehow the last one seemed even better. Maybe because I tend to prefer acoustic versions of their songs. Also maybe because I didnt know their new songs that well. However I still have Peeli Patti aur Raja Jani running in my head right now. It’s one of those trance inducing songs similar to what Ali Azmat used to do with Lal Meri Pat.
– RDB came last. They didnt seem to happy. Maybe they expected a larger crowd. I think they declined to give the interview with the MuchMusic VJ too. Eitherways it was still good music. You cant really go wrong with Bhangra.
All in all I wish they’d have more of these. I think I’m going to start downloading Pakistani music again. Try new stuff. Irti has already started my re-education and considering the amount of stuff I seem to imbibed in the Cali road trip, I think I’m halfway there already. Oh and the folks organizing this event was really pleasant which is a nice change from the usual snobbish lot one has to contend with.

I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined
I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
