Misconceptions

Warning: The following post could potentially put you to sleep. Only proceed if you were classified as a nerd back in high school:

So I finished Schrödinger’s Ball and apparently misquoting seems to be the norm. For example:

a) “Schrödinger did not wish to promote the idea of dead-and-alive cats as a serious possibility. Rather he believed that those who would see the experiment as “absurd” had made a flawed assumption. Some, not realizing his cat is a demonstration of the strangeness of quantum mechanics, believe the cat is, indeed, half-dead and half-alive.”" — Wikipedia Article

Contrary to popular belief he was merely using the experiment to disprove another concept and not using it to prove a stand alone theory.

b) A common quote attributed to Einstein “God does not play dice with the universe” is a variant of what he actually said and the modification tends to overshadow the fact he was referring to Quantum Mechanics. The actual quote is “Quantum mechanics is certainly imposing. But an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing. The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the Old One. I, at any rate, am convinced that He does not throw dice.” (Letter to Max Born (12 December 1926); quoted in Einstein: The Life and Times ISBN 0-380-44123-3.)

Ok so apparently I just got addicted to Facebook. Orkut is all good and well for my friends over in South Asia but all my N American friends are on this thing. Eitherways point being its hilarious. Sample of some groups I found amusing:

Waterloo is Not a Goose Sanctuary
WTF (We’re The Fobs)
Poking Is Haraam
When I was your age, Pluto was a planet.

Also they managed to do something which a lot of sites have been trying to do. Create a database of searchable photo’s shared among people. Everyone seems to be making a collaborative effort to tag their photos with full names so it’s easy to find yourself in other people’s albums.

Cell Phone Usages

Have absolutely no clue as to whether any of these work. Going to try out opening via phone thing though as soon as I get the time: [El.]

Emergency number

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly…this number 112 can be dialed even while the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Locked the keys in the car?

Your car has remote keys? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a mobile phone: If you happen to lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are home, call someone on your mobile phone. Hold your mobile phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other “remote” for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the boot).
Editor’s Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!”

Hidden Battery power

Imagine your battery is very low, u r expecting an important call and u don’t have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your battery will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when u charge your phone next time.

You Never Truly Retire From Grocery-Bagging

Books read and too lazy to review in detail:

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet: Funny, absorbing, must read. Proud to own it. Initial 25% tends to drag a tad but then picks up. Very much Pratchet and Gaiman.

The Tent by Margaret Atwood: Can’t remember much. Been awhile. Will probably pick it up again and probably see each story in a completely different light everytime I read it. Odd, dark, creepy windows into the human psyche. Reccommended. It’s literature though. Not suspenseful timepass.

Foliage mess up

Ok so revamp in progress for real. As stated earlier CHANGE BOOKMARKS to http://sairaq.org

Also you probably will have problems accessing stuff while I go through a number of template variations. The one I’m currently using is called Foliage Mod. It’s quite funky except as with all funky things involves ironing out a lot of bugs. I would have done so except I think I want to have something a little more summery and going through the trouble of fixing it would take way too long.

Also temperorarily your comment might not show up. Don’t worry it’ll still be saved. Probably end up in the moderation queue. I have to set up a captcha properly and hopefully a better one than the previous rendition of the website. Suggestions for themes are welcome.
