Schrödinger’s Cat Sings the Blues
via panta rei on flickr

we are all
schrödinger’s cats
waiting for the box to open

howling in the dark
screaming into the ambiguity
of our existence

yearning for and dreading
the certainty of what we are

waiting for someone to free us
from the prison
of endless possibilities

someone who lifts the lid above us
and lets the blue floodlight
of the moon fall upon us

to grant us the mercy of knowing
if we are alive or dead

For some reason every feed I subscribe to seems to have referred to The Wire at some point or the other. It has got to the point that I’m seriously considering downloading a couple of episodes.

After spending the past six years reading primarily The Toronto Star and various other N. American publications, I have come to the realization I have been deprived of all global news and all is definitely much worse than previously thought. Observation made after merely 1 week of feed subscription to Dawn. Apparently the Dutch are suffering casualties on a regular basis in Afghanistan and Afghanistan based Canadians seem to be wounded every other day. Surprisingly only the deaths make front page news now days. Also it’s refreshing to go cover to cover without having to see the phrase “War on Terror”.

My life seems to currently revolve around Schrödinger’s cat which basically deals with the concept of being alive and dead at the same time as long as no one knows whether you’re alive or dead which sorta takes the fun out of it. Eitherways it has something to do with particles, waves and eigenstates which I won’t get into right now. Gist being I’m currently reading a book called Schrödinger’s Ball and everywhere I go this seems to crop up. I think it’s some sort of curse associated with reading books. Whatever you’re currently reading will influence your life for the next couple of months.

Everyone loved The Departed yes? I thought it was a clichéd mob movie even though it was pretty good cinematically. Surprisingly Jack Nicholson faded into the background and Mark Wahlberg made a mark for himself. In addition I realized I really don’t give Alec Baldwin enough credit. I am now extremely tempted to watch 30 Rock.

On a side note doesn’t Martin Sheen look eerily like Donald Trump?

A.J and AI

Moi is upset. Yesterday A.J over at American Idol got booted and for once Paula Abdul made sense when she stated that this was one of those times when the voting system hadnt worked or something to that effect. I was shocked beyond belief and could quite empathize with the folks tearing up in the audience. He didnt cry though and still went through with his final repeat of his song. That was possibily the most bravest thing I’ve seen in ages. Hell even the chap who got to stay, Sanjaya, was shocked beyond belief. We all knew A.J. was better. Here’s A.J. Tabaldo singing “Feeling Good”:

And here’s the chap who beat him with “Stepping Out”:

What’s the charge? Flying while Muslim?

Gist:
The trials and tribulations of being Muslim in a small Canadian prairie town called Mercy.

Comments
– Chap who plays the new Imam, Amaar Rashid (Actor Zaib Shaikh) wasnt too bad. But then he has experience doing television.
– The girl who plays the daughter of the construction company owner, Sitara Hewitt, is beyond awful. Every line she has sounds fake and makes one cringe. They need to replace her. Fast.
– I thought her mom had a sense of humour.
– Whoever wrote the script is a whiz at writing one-liners.
– I dont think it went over the top at all. Personally have seen Pakistani comedy shows which get away with far more when it comes to poking fun at themselves. Tis a pity though that most of the actors are non-Muslims in this case.
– Pilots are usually put more effort into. Lets see what the rest of the season brings.
– This has got to have broken some record as far as hype generated prior to launch goes.

Airs: 10 p.m. Wednesdays on Global

I have no clue where I heard about this show originally, however the premise was so interesting that I made a point of watching it yesterday. I havent had a chance to see the pilot yet so everything is currently a little hazy. Highlights:

– A girl who is indestructible. There was a scene in the last episode in which she’s lying on a morgue table all cut up for an autopsy and she just wakes up, wraps her skin around her ribcage and miraculously heals (a la Unbreakable)
– A guy who can draw the future
– Another guy who says he can fly. I didnt get to see him fly in this episode so am figuring he hasnt flown yet
– A woman with a vicious split personality
– A guy who can stop time

I think the gist of the whole series is something regarding the destruction of atleast NYC within six weeks and these people will probably have to do something about it. Two of the cast members; Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) and Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) happen to be fairly good at what they do and the special affects and lighting is surreal. Gives the whole Sin City feel except they’ve upped it a notch. Like for example the last scene could easily have been lifted straight off a comic book. If you do end up watching it, do share your take on it. Warning: The chap who plays Dr Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) tends to get a little annoying.

Tidbit for those who have no clue, Sacha Baron Cohen (from Ali G. fame) played the rival racecar driver, Jean Girrard, in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I personally thought he stole the show from Ferell but to each his own.

And surprisingly Ugly Betty was quite a fun watch. Pretty much The Devil Wears Prada except Betty (America Ferrera) is much better than Anne Hathaway and Vanessa Williams can’t quite measure up to Meryl Streep. Nonetheless entertaining.

Smallville 04-05: Run

Just saw the 5th episode of this season. Dealt with a kid who could run fast quite like Clark. I presumed he was just another entity dreamt up for the sole purpose of Smallville, however towards the end when it becomes apparent he could even run faster than Superman, got me thinking. Looked up some info. on The Flash and turns out the kid was meant to potray one of the flash family, Bart Allen. Speed was apparently an inherited trait in varying proportions. But then I guess a lot of the superhero traits were in a sense. Superman being an obvious exception since he was an alien in the first place.
