Went through a number of hotel sites while searching for a hotel in/around NYC. Had a majorly limited budget and 4 people. Choice was made based on online sites alone. Was quite satisfied with the choice. Around CAN$400 for two nights for a room which had two double beds, a pull-out sofa bed, a microwave, DVD player etc. etc. Wonderful service to boot. Also I believe you can get quite a great view of the hudson and NYC if you opt for one of the smaller rooms.

Only issue was the USD$6 (one-way) ferry ride to NYC. If you’re planning to take in the night life, is probably not the best bet for you even though the hotel has complimentary pickup from an additional ferry location if their own ferry is closed as is the case on weekends. Last ferry is 1.30 a.m. on weekdays. Dont know about weekends.

As far as the town of Weehawken goes, quite liked it. Very quaint and some really lovely houses. Not at all the dangerous, subarban area I expected. Oh and driving was a piece of cake.

I did my hotel booking through Expedia because at that point in time it had the lowest rate. Had no issues whatsoever. They dont even ask for a credit card at the hotel. Websites I found useful for finding hotels:
